In the 19th century, North Easton was home to the world-renowned Ames Shovel Works. Founded by Oliver Ames, the company grew into a manufacturing powerhouse, providing high-quality tools that literally shaped the nation—supplying shovels for the California Gold Rush, the construction of the Transcontinental Railroad, and Union troops during the American Civil War.
By the late 1800s, Ames was producing over 60% of the world’s shovels, earning North Easton its proud nickname: “Shovel Town.”
Today, Shovel Town Brewery proudly resides in one of the historic former Ames Shovel Works manufacturing buildings at 50 Oliver Street (Rear).
Walking through our doors, you’ll experience an industrial-chic atmosphere featuring original exposed brick and historic wooden beams—honoring the craftsmanship, hard work, and industrial legacy of our town’s past.
